There are uncountable varieties of tomatoes and many that grow better in specific regions than in others. Here in DC, we have our own particular gardening climate that lets us grow a wide variety of plants–if we can but find the space to do so! Many gardeners find a way to grow their beloved tomatoes of all kinds, in garden plots, pots, or even on window sills and front steps. But for someone new to tomato gardening, or new to eating delicious, fresh-grown tomatoes rather than those tasteless red orbs from the grocery stores, what qualities should you look for in a tomato for growing and cooking?
Although there’s nothing more scrumptious than food you grow yourself, last Saturday, our Tastiest Tomato Contest judges shared what they find makes a “tasty” tomato.
