Becoming DC State Fair, Inc.

After the huge success that was the 2010 DC State Fair, held at Columbia Heights Day on August 28, we decided that this event should continue and grow. So, we are organizing ourselves into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and we have already been incorporated in DC as DC State Fair, Inc.

DC State Fair Bake Sales

To get full-on 501(c)(3) status, we need money to file forms with the federal government and make us all official (so future donations may actually be tax deductible!). So, we are holding a bake sale fundraiser! The 14th & U Farmers Market has been gracious enough to give us space in the market on November 20th, from 9 AM to 1 PM. Update: We will also be at Bloomingdale Farmers’ Market, November 21st, from 10 AM to 2 PM. If you would like to volunteer or donate baked goods for that day, we’d love to have you, also!

If anyone is interested, there are several ways to help:

1. Donate Baked Goods – e-mail us at dcstatefair@gmail.com to sign up to help. We are looking for items that are “Fall” themed and encourage you to use produce grown locally to make your baked goods. For a list of local farmers markets, please see here.

2. Volunteer Hours – e-mail us at dcstatefair@gmail.com to sign up to help sell baked goods on Saturday, November 20th. We will have 2 hour shifts.

3. Spread the Word – The electronic flyer above can be posted on websites, blogs, Facebook, etc. (Just right-click and “save as” to download it, or e-mail us and we’ll send it to you.) Please encourage family and friends to visit the market and pick up some delicious baked goods for your holiday gatherings.

4. As always, the Paypal “Donate” button on the right is an option!

DC State Fair was a success because of the enthusiasm that came from DC residents, visitors, volunteers, and contestants. We couldn’t have succeeded without you, and we hope your support will continue!

See you on November 20th! (and/or November 21st!)
